Drew Strickland might have a less than enthusiastic professional opinion of the 40D’s AI Servo AF tracking performance, but Bryan P (Flickr | Smugmug) proves otherwise in his 40D AI Servo test.

Bryan conducted the test with three lens combinations: EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM, the EF 200mm f/2.8L and the 200mm f/2.8L with the Canon 1.4x TC.

Overall, the 40D performed better than the Canon 30D in this respect.

Variability in AI Servo performance could be caused by the lens itself, as Bryan found out (his 70-200 f/4L IS performed slightly worse than with the EF 200mm f/2.8L).
